Nuclear on Nantucket
Hi All,
For those of you who will be on Nantucket this July, I wanted to share with you an event that I am excited to be organizing as part of the Geschke Lecture Series put on by the Nantucket Atheneum, the public library on island. On July 12th at 7pm at the Great Harbor Yacht Club, I will be moderating a panel about nuclear energy and the efforts that the sector is making to modernize in order to address today's climate and energy security challenges.
The event will include presentations by panelists from the advanced nuclear energy industry, the U.S. Department of Energy's National Reactor Innovation Center (where I work), and academia. This will be followed by a Q&A session facilitated by Atheneum staff. Tickets are $25 and can be purchased here. For those not familiar with the Geschke Lecture Series, past presenters have included a long list of distinguished individuals from the press, business, government, foreign relations, and the military.
If you're interested in getting a sample of the discussion you can watch a recording of a similar event I helped to organize in April at the Community Library in Ketchum, Idaho. Because the National Reactor Innovation Center is headquartered in Idaho at Idaho National Laboratory, we've been doing public outreach in the state for over a year. Thanks to some fortunate calendar alignment among the presenters, we're looking forward to bringing the discussion to my hometown of Nantucket.
For the record this is not a substitute edition of Steward (for which I am long overdue!) and I hope to see some of you in July.
Best,
River
